In his word, God has revealed
breathtaking truth about himself
Sunday Morning Real-Time Translation, Phase One
Teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ without hindrance (Acts 28:31).
I love the beauty of Stone Hill Church’s diversity: age, vocation, color, socioeconomic background, ethnicity, and language. This diversity is an amazing gift from God. But as with any of God’s gifts, there comes responsibility. And it is responsibility that lies behind an innovation you will begin to see in February.
Over the past two years, a portion of Expanding Our Serve monies have been put aside to fund the installation of a live-feed system for real-time translation of the Sunday sermon. In other words, while the sermon is preached in English, congregants can hear it in a different language, translated by a volunteer in real time.
Jim Erickson, our Facilities Administrator, describes the translation system as “basically made up of three parts: the transmitter, the receiver, and the translators. Digiwave devices, found in many churches throughout the Northeast, are easy to use and similar to our current hearing assistance system. You simply pick up a receiver from the AV booth. Put the ear piece on and turn up the volume as needed. As you listen, volunteers will transmit from our AVL room, translating from a live feed. You will be able to receive the translation throughout the Sanctuary and Atrium.”
The first phase of this project entails translation into Spanish. Martha Acosta and Ana Osorio, active in our Spanish small group, express delight: “Having the sermon translated into Spanish will advance the Kingdom of God in the Spanish community throughout the area, fulfilling our Mission of spreading the Good News. It will encourage families to not only attend the small group, but also to come together as a family and attend our Sunday service. They can learn and grow in their own language. This reminds us of Revelation 5:9: …with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation. It is exciting to know that God listens to his people, as this translation project is an answer to weekly prayers. Praise our Lord!”
