Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church, our Leader, and our very Life.
Pastor to People
I was glad when they said unto me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord.” And now we are standing here inside your gates, O Jerusalem. Psalm 122:1-2
Three times a year the ancient Jews traveled to Jerusalem. There they celebrated God’s loyal love together in three different festivals. The city was thronged with people, the atmosphere was electric, the opportunities for renewal were around every corner. No wonder God asked them to do this. He wanted his people to gather in large numbers, to meet others of like faith from different tribes and regions, and together to enjoy the blessings of the Living God.
God’s plan worked. The people of Israel did indeed travel to Jerusalem as requested. And they were “glad” to do so—especially if Psalm 122:1 is any indication. They anticipated a time of joy, in-depth teaching, large-scale worship, and corporate renewal. And that is exactly what they experienced. No wonder they said to one another, “Let us go to the house of the Lord!”
So I say to you, “Let’s go to the house of the Lord.” By that I mean, join me at this year’s Gospel Coalition Regional Conference. It takes place on Friday evening, October 13, and Saturday, October 14, here at Stone Hill. There you will join with hundreds of other Christians from churches across the mid-Atlantic region for 24 hours of fellowship, teaching, worship, and renewal.
I can assure you, I and the TGC team have done our homework on the organizing side of this conference. I say that because:
- For one thing, we will led in worship by Matthew Smith of Indelible Grace. Yup. Indelible Grace. If you haven’t heard of them or their music, here’s a link: http://www.igracemusic.com
- Furthermore, our two speakers are pastoral voices of truth and healing and hope. I’ll have more to say about them next week. But for now, let me mention their names and provide links:
- Mark Dever, Senior Pastor of Capital Hill Baptist Church and president of 9Marks: http://www.capitolhillbaptist.org/about-us/leadership-staff/member/1267131/
- Russell Moore, former pastor, now ethicist, journalist, and author, serving as president of the DC-based Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention:http://erlc.com/about/president-russell-moore
This year’s TGC Regional will indeed be a “festival” worth attending. Let’s go to the house of the Lord together. Just go onto our website and register.
