Our King Jesus leads and protects us.
A Note from Pastor Matt:
Below are some important thoughts from Pastor Tracy about deepening our community at Stone Hill:
John 13:34-35 details the power of community within the body of Christ as it says:
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.
The love that we express to one another in community lets the world know that we are followers of Jesus. Community in the body of Christ can extend and deepen the reputation of Jesus Christ. Conversely, a lack of community can tarnish that reputation on a human level.
It is also clear from scripture that the Holy Spirit creates the community of faith by placing all kinds of different people into the church of Jesus Christ. (I Corinthians 12:12-13) And it is through that same Holy Spirit that we learn together to express love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness etc. (Galatians 5:22-23)
One of main ways that we hope to see community deepened in our church is through small groups. This is where we hope that believers will connect with one another in a more profound way so that real fellowship begins to express itself. We want our small groups to be the places where relationships are initiated and then deepen.
So, let me encourage you to consider 4 courses of action for the rest of the summer.
· Pray that God would develop and deepen community at Stone Hill through the power of the Holy Spirit. We cannot manufacture community in our own strength.
· Would you be willing to host a small group starting this fall?
· Would you be willing to facilitate a small group? We provide training.
· Will you prepare to commit to being part of a small group this fall?
If you are willing to host and/or pursue facilitating a small group this fall please email Pastor Tracy at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you are planning to join a small group this fall, we will have our full small group offerings available just after Labor Day.
Café on Vacation: The Café is closed for vacation beginning this Sunday, July 28. We plan to “reopen” Sunday, September 8. In the meantime, coffee will be provided on Sunday mornings. The fellowship doesn’t have to stop. This would be a good time to pack a snack or lunch and invite friends to join you. Please clean up after yourself. We do need more volunteers to serve in the Café going forward, please considering signing up at the Serve Table in the atrium.
Serve Table in the Atrium: We have many ministry opportunities for you to serve here at Stone Hill Church. There is a Serve Table in the atrium each Sunday for you to examine your spiritual gifts, survey the ministry opportunities, and find a place to serve here. Each Sunday it will feature and highlight different ministries. Stop by the Serve Table before and after services today!
Ministry to the Dying and Bereaved: Pastors and deacons minister in specific ways when someone dies, but everyone in the congregation can care for those who mourn. This class aims to encourage, educate, and equip anyone to care for fellow congregants (and family members, neighbors, and friends) in times of sickness, dying, and loss. The primary facets will be biblical theology, personal reflection, an explanation of Stone Hill Church’s practices, and practical guidance. This class will be taught by Alex Kato and meet in the Library starting August 4 at 9:30 a.m. The last class is September 1.
Beauty to the Block: Diane Bellamy, from Transformation Church, will be hosting the annual "Beauty To The Block " event on Saturday, August 3rd from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. At this event there will be hair services, free food, clothing, hygiene bags, and health services (provided by Trenton Health Department) for the homeless population in Trenton. This year's event will take place outside of the rescue mission on Ewing Street. Donations of clothing and/or hygiene products would be greatly appreciated. They would also welcome volunteers on the day of the event, helping to show the love of Christ to those who may not know Him. There will be a donation drop off box at Stone Hill Church, by the coat closet in the atrium, through the remainder of July. Donations may also be dropped off at In His Image Hair Studio, 937 Brunswick Ave, Trenton, NJ 08638, Wednesday-Saturday.
Backpack Drive: We are collecting all kinds of school supplies for the 10th Annual Backpack and School Supplies Drive run by Princeton Human Services for children from low-income families in our community. Please take advantage of great sales at Staples, Walmart, and other stores. You can bring in glue sticks, pencils, erasers, pens, notebooks, rulers, etc. Bins located at the Children's Welcome Desk. Collection ends Sunday, August 4.
