Our sin is in need of God's saving grace.

Discussion Questions:
  • What are your ‘go to’ idols?
    • If you have trouble identifying those idols, ask yourself the following questions?
      • What do you fear losing?
      • What do you dream about or daydream about?
      • What causes you most often to lose joy, peace or contentment?
      • What do you feel you must try and control in your life, but can’t?  What we try and control is often a clue to our idolatry?
      • What angers you most often?
      • If only ________________ (this happened) my life would be better?
  • Are you attempting to get God to make your idols work?
    • Are you prayers most focused on what you want or desire or need or even demand to happen?
  • In order to break our idolatry we must see two truths at the same time:
    • First, we must see the full scope of our sin before a holy God.
    • Second, we must see the vastness of God’s grace, which is much larger than all our sin.
      • Which of these realities do you have hard time keeping in view during the week?
        • Do you minimize your sin?
        • Do you minimize God’s grace?
        • Do you fail to see the sheer grace of God, which He is not obligated to give you?
        • Do you fail to treat your sin as serious?
  • How can you (personally) keep your sin and God’s grace in view together?
  • Would you share your typical idols with some other believers so that they can pray for you?
Church notes:

O Come to the Altar

Are you hurting and broken within?
Overwhelmed by the weight of your sin?
Jesus is calling
Have you come to the end of yourself?
Do you thirst for a drink from the well?
Jesus is calling

(Refrain) Oh come to the altar
The Father's arms are open wide
Forgiveness was bought with
The precious blood of Jesus Christ

Leave behind your regrets and mistakes
Come today, there's no reason to wait
Jesus is calling
Bring your sorrows and trade them for joy
From the ashes a new life is born
Jesus is calling (Refrain)

Oh what a Savior
Isn't He wonderful?
Sing alleluia, Christ is risen
Bow down before HIm
For He is Lord of all
Sing alleluia, Christ is risen (Refrain)
