If you listen closely to Pastor Matt's accent, you can tell that he grew up in the Boston area: every once in awhile his "R's" disappear. During his freshman year at Princeton University he trusted Christ. He began to attend Stone Hill (then Westerly Road Church) as a student the next spring (1972). Interestingly, it was around the same time that Matt met another Princeton student who would one day become his wife. In 1977, Matt and Karen were married, right at Westerly Road. In 1975, Matt attended Grace Seminary in Indiana, where he received his M.Div. In the early '90s, he completed his doctoral studies at Dallas Seminary (Texas). In 1985, after seven years of ministry with the Princeton Evangelical Fellowship, Matt became the Senior Pastor of Westerly Road Church. He and Karen have been blessed with two sons and daughters-in-law, and one granddaughter and two grandsons.
As Senior Pastor, Matt provides the overall leadership for the church. Working with the elders, he sets vision, oversees the staff, preaches and teaches, shepherds, cares and prays. He delights in seeing the Spirit of God use the Word of God to transform human hearts. This was his own experience when he became a Christian, and to be part of this miracle is the heart of God's call for him. His hobbies include Tae Kwon Do, watching birds, writing, playing guitar and reading.
