The Mission of Stone Hill Church: prayer pause
Jesus said, “Go therefore and make disciples. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (from Matthew 28:19–20).
Over the past month I have devoted the 350 words of this weekly column to an explanation of Stone Hill’s freshly revised purpose statement, advancing God’s mission of making dedicated followers of Jesus Christ! I hope I have successfully communicated both its biblical foundation and several initiatives it has generated. There are two more initiatives that I will share after Easter, but for now I thought I would hit the pause button and request prayer.
Below are prayer requests in light of the mission. You’ll notice that I’ve arranged them on a Monday-through-Friday schedule. I do that to promote thoughtful prayer throughout the week. If something other fits your weekly rhythms better, then by all means rearrange!
Monday: as our church scatters throughout the week, congregants step into all sorts of roles, jobs, and callings. Pray that the Holy Spirit would empower each of us to advance God’s mission right where we are. May we be witnesses to Christ in all our different places and relationships.
Tuesday: Women’s Bible Study meets in the morning; the Stone Hill Learning Center meets in the afternoon; other youth activities will take place on Wednesday (Awana) and Friday (Youth Group); men’s groups will meet on Saturday. Pray that these ministries will catalyze men, women, and children to follow Christ with great faith and dedication.
Wednesday: different staff meetings take place today. Pray for missional thinking for the pastoral, office, and facility staff. Ask the same for church elders, deacons, and ministry leaders. Pray that they remember, plan, pray, and implement in light of the big picture of God’s mission.
Thursday: what more basic unit of discipleship is there than families? And for many, small groups are a close second! Pray that the Spirit and His Word would dwell richly in them, empowering real growth in following Christ.
Friday: pray for our younger leaders, that God would prepare men and women who will have the character, wisdom, faith, and skill to advance our mission to the next level in their soon-to-come generation.
