The Mission of Stone Hill Church: mentoring younger leaders
Teach these great truths to trustworthy people who are able to pass them on to others (2 Timothy 2:20).
In early March I wrote about the importance of younger leaders at Stone Hill. We are blessed with so many of them. They contribute so much to our life together. And we have a joyful responsibility to mentor them. I quote:
Ever since its first decades, Christianity has triumphed by being passed on personally from generation to generation. That’s the essence of Paul’s advice to his protégé: “Timothy, don’t keep quiet about the truths which I’ve taught you. Build them into leaders of the next generation. And do it in a way that they in turn can hand them on to the leaders of the generation after theirs.”
As spiritual leader of our congregation, I am committed to advancing God’s mission of making dedicated followers of Jesus Christ. And the apostolic wisdom on that is to train up the younger leaders so that they in their time can do the same.
Let me update you on two developments in relation to younger leaders at Stone Hill. First, I have scheduled several younger leaders to preach on Sunday morning. In fact, you are hearing the first of them today, Kevin Antlitz. Kevin was ordained here at Stone Hill in 2015. I am confident that God will speak through Kevin this morning with great power.
Second, within the next two weeks, pilot modules for the first of three parts of a younger leader mentorship course will be launched. There will be two tracks to the pilot: one for men (taught by me) and one for women (taught by Mary McCormack). This opening module will focus on the character of a gospel-centered leader. It will be followed by two more pilot modules. The second will focus on relationships and vocation, the third on leadership in the church. Mary and I intend to learn from these pilots, improve our serve, and then launch them on a broader scale.
May God bless these efforts. And to him be the glory as he carries his church forward!
