Pastor to People:

"But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness" (Matthew 6:33)

Betsy Ferrer: We met in Young Life camp when we were 16 and celebrate our 20th anniversary this summer! God is good! When Pastor Matt married us, he reminded us that marriage is a triangle - the two of us and God- and that the closer we draw to God, the closer we draw to each other. Through some intense challenges early in our marriage, (workaholism, perfectionism, addiction), we discovered we had put other things, including each other, in God's rightful place. Through the counsel and prayers of believers around us, God brought us through what could easily have ended our relationship. We continue to learn that marriage is not 50/50 but 100/100, with each person sacrificing for the other, not counting the cost.  We continue to learn to seek what we need from God first (approval, acceptance, affirmation) instead of demanding these from each other. Ben is my best friend and I am thankful for all that God continues to do in our marriage.

Ben Ferrer: Through life’s challenges, including addiction, work, and worldly desires, God has always shown his presence and love for me through the one person who devoted her life to me 20 years ago. Betsy’s overflowing love for Jesus has been such a significant Christ-centered force in our marriage and our family. I have grown stronger as husband, father, and man through God’s work in Betsy and her love for me and our family. 20 years ago, I did not understand the importance of the foundation of Christ’s love in our marriage until I witnessed how he worked through us to guide us through the highs and lows of our relationship. My relationship with Christ is strengthened through my wife’s love for me and our love for God in this marriage.
